Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 23, 2026
My Language Story LLC ("Language Story," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Language Story mobile and web application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have over your data.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information you provide
- Account data from sign-in providers. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address, your public display name, and (if you grant it) your profile photo.
- Profile preferences. The languages you are learning, the stories you are playing, friends you have added, and any custom notes you save (for example, vocabulary in your notebook).
- User-generated content. Audio recordings of your voice that you record to complete dialogue lines, the branch choices you make in stories, and reactions you add to your partner's recordings.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Device and push notification identifiers. To send push notifications (invite accepted, partner recorded, etc.) we receive an Expo push token tied to your device.
- Session and diagnostic data. Server logs (IP address, approximate timestamps, error traces) and, if you have opted in, anonymous analytics events (screens viewed, features used). We use these to keep the Service working and to fix bugs.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Create and maintain your account.
- Enable you to play story sessions with other users (match you with partners, deliver their recordings to you, store your turn history).
- Send push notifications that you have opted into.
- Produce synthesized example audio for story lines using a text-to-speech provider.
- Monitor the Service, detect abuse, and improve reliability.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Who We Share Information With
We share data only with service providers that help us run the Service. Each is bound by a data-processing agreement and may only use your data for the purposes described here.
- Google — sign-in (OAuth) and Google Cloud Text-to-Speech.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and Apple Push Notification Service.
- Cloudflare — hosting for our application servers (Workers) and storage of your audio recordings (R2).
- Neon — managed PostgreSQL database hosting.
- Expo — push notification delivery.
- Upstash — session rate-limiting and caching.
We may also share information if we are legally required to (for example, a subpoena), to protect the safety of users, or in connection with a sale or merger of our business.
4. Other Users of the Service
Language Story is a partnered experience. When you play a session with a friend, that friend can see: your display name, your avatar (if set), the recordings you submit during the session, the reactions you add, and the branch choices you make. Only people you have explicitly added as friends can invite you to play.
5. Data Retention
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from the Profile screen in the app. On deletion, we remove your profile, friends, story sessions, and audio recordings from our systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Server logs are retained for up to 90 days.
6. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate data;
- delete your data;
- export a copy of your data;
- opt out of certain processing (such as analytics).
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@mylanguagestory.com. We will respond within 30 days.
6.1 Florida residents
The Florida Digital Bill of Rights gives Florida consumers the right to access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of their personal data, and to opt out of the sale of personal data or targeted advertising. We do not sell personal data and we do not conduct targeted advertising. To exercise your rights, contact us at the email address above.
6.2 California residents
The California Consumer Privacy Act grants California residents similar rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
7. Children's Privacy
Language Story is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete the account promptly.
8. International Transfers
Our service providers (Cloudflare, Neon, Expo, and others) may store and process your data in the United States or other countries. By using the Service you consent to the transfer of your information to these jurisdictions.
9. Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest where our service providers support it, authentication tokens with expiration, and access controls to protect your data. No Internet service is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable measures to reduce risk.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. If we make material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
